John Dutton

Meet John Dutton (John, Johnathon, stopthat, comehere). He’s a nearly three-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

He loves other dogs and always wants to say hello to dogs. People kind of scare him though.

You’ll find him walking around Abell Road and the pond off Parker Road most afternoons to meet our doggie friends!

John’s favourite game is chasing the cobweb broom around the backyard, and annoying his cat brothers, Zeus and Chocolate Thunder.

Charnie and Bollo

Meet Charnie and her big boy Bollo! 🐾Bollo is a 2½-year-old Staffy with a huge heart and a whole lot of energy. He’s not aggressive, just super excited when it comes to meeting new friends 😅.Charnie is looking for some calm, well-mannered dogs in the Whitsundays who can join them for walks or playdates.

Tarnia and Remi

Everyone, say hi to Remington (better known as Remi 🐶💛 …and yes, he’s named after the rifle, not the hair straightener 😂).Remi is a 2-year-old Jack Russell x Foxy with an explosive personality — he’ll chase absolutely anything that moves! His favourite adventures include free runs at Conway Beach at low tide and playing with his mastiff girlfriend, Sunny, who lives just down the road.

Ariell and John Dutton

Di and Bruce

Meets Di and Bruce. They have been living in Airlie since 2021. Di is a BAS agent with over 25 years of experience running my own bookkeeping business, Whitsunday Business Services. and Bruce, is a 9 yr old Rotti who loves other pups 🐶. He is a joy to own and very obedient. Although often gets told what a big boy he is, even though he thinks he is small!!

Kath and Bailey

Meet Kath & BaileyBailey is a 3½-year-old Cavoodle with a big heart, a slightly shy side, and a brain that’s always ticking. Born and bred right here in the Whitsundays, he’s happiest when he’s running at the park or the beach with his fur family, cruising in the car, or curled up in a deep sleep. He’s super smart, but still learning, so we do training every day to boost his social skills and keep his mind active.

Orchid Valley Vets

The Canine Collective is proud to welcome Orchid Valley Veterinary Clinic! 🐾👩‍⚕️We’re a passionate team of locals dedicated to keeping the Whitsundays’ pets happy, healthy, and full of life. Being part of this amazing community means the world to us, and we pride ourselves on offering friendly, compassionate care for all creatures — great and small.Don’t be surprised if you spot one of our own pups at the clinic when you visit… they’re always on hand for a cuddle, a tail wag, or a sneaky treat 🐶💖

Figgy and her Treehouse Fam

Meet Figgy, the five-year-old Groodle who’s basically a local celebrity around Airlie! Back in the day, Figgy spent her puppyhood helping to run the Treehouse Café — greeting customers, charming kids, and (most importantly) taste-testing snacks. 🍪

These days, Figgy’s swapped café shifts for cuddles with her growing family — Grant, Bec, baby Olive, and brand-new little sister Elkie-Mae 💕 — but she still loves popping in for visits (and snacks, always snacks).

Cameron and Jonathan

Say hello to Cameron and his pup Jonathan, the 5-year-old black-tri Border Collie who’s basically Airlie Beach’s unofficial ball-chasing ambassador

Jonathan’s favourite things in life?

The Ball (capital B — it’s serious business), swimming, playing with kids

And… reallllllly old men (no one knows why, but it’s ridiculously cute).

Our Founder

Our Founder

Hi! I’m Nicky, and for the past three years, I’ve had the joy of calling the beautiful Whitsundays my home. I’m passionate about dogs, committed to their well-being, and endlessly inspired by everything this natural paradise has to offer.

As a dedicated dog walker and carer, I spend my days in the company of delightful pups—especially the lovely Staffie, M.J., whom I walk and adore. My love for dogs goes beyond walks, though: I’m also studying dog massage and wellness, so I can better support their physical and emotional health.

I launched the Whitsunday Canine Collective to bring together local dog lovers—a friendly meeting point where we can share walks, wellness tips, and useful resources. My goal is to connect pet owners to the best spots and experiences around here.

What we value

These values guide everything we do at Whitsunday Canine Collective — from the way we connect people, to the support we share, to the community we build together. They’re the foundation for creating a friendly, welcoming space where dog lovers and their four-legged friends can thrive.

Connection

We believe in the power of connection — not just between dogs and their humans, but between people in our community who share a love for their four-legged friends. Whitsunday Canine Collective is a place where friendships are made, advice is shared, and support is always just a conversation away. Whether it’s swapping walking routes, sharing a great local dog sitter, or simply meeting for a coffee with your pups, connection is at the heart of everything we do.

Community Care

A strong community cares for all its members — furry and human alike. We value kindness, respect, and responsible pet ownership, knowing that when we look out for each other, our dogs thrive too. From promoting safe socialisation to supporting local pet services, we’re here to build a network that makes the Whitsundays an even better place to be a dog (or a dog lover).

Joy in the Everyday

Life is better with a little wag in it. We believe in celebrating the simple joys our dogs bring — the sandy paws after a beach run, the happy chaos of a group walk, the quiet moments of cuddles at the end of the day. Whitsunday Canine Collective exists to make more of those moments happen by creating opportunities for people and pups to enjoy life together in the beautiful Whitsundays.

On-Leash vs Off-Leash Interactions & Leash Aggression

Have you ever noticed that your dog seems friendly at the park but barks or lunges when meeting another dog on leash? You’re not alone — leash reactivity is common, even in otherwise well-mannered dogs. Understanding the difference between on-leash and off-leash interactions can help you prevent problems and set your dog up for calmer, safer greetings.

How to Socialise Your Dog

Socialising your dog is about much more than just “meeting other dogs.” It’s about helping them feel confident, calm, and happy in a world full of sights, sounds, and surprises. Whether you’re starting with a curious puppy or a rescue dog with a past, socialisation can transform how your dog experiences life — and how much you enjoy it together.

5 Mistakes People Make When Walking Their Dog

Walking your dog should be one of the most enjoyable parts of your day – a chance for fresh air, exercise, and bonding time. But without realising it, many dog owners make simple mistakes on walks that can lead to frustration, poor behaviour, or even safety risks. Whether you’re a first-time puppy parent or have been walking dogs for years, avoiding these common pitfalls can make every outing smoother and more enjoyable for both you and your furry companion.

The Truth About Dog Park Etiquette

Dog parks can be a fantastic way for your furry friend to burn off energy, meet new pals, and enjoy some off-leash freedom. But while they’re a doggy paradise in theory, in reality, they can quickly become chaotic if everyone isn’t on the same page. Good dog park etiquette isn’t about being the “fun police” — it’s about making sure all dogs (and owners) have a safe, positive experience. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular visitor, knowing the dos and don’ts of dog park manners can make all the difference.

How a Dog Can Help With Depression

Depression can make the world feel smaller, heavier, and lonelier. But sometimes, healing doesn’t come in the form of big breakthroughs — it comes with a wagging tail, a nudge from a wet nose, or a quiet companion lying at your feet.
